Hang Tuah Monorail Station
About the Station
Hang Tuah Monorail Station is an interchange station in the Pudu district of
Kuala Lumpur between Kuala Lumpur Monorail and
LRT Ampang Line /
Sri Petaling Line. The Station
opened alongside the rest of the train service on August 31, 2003.
The Hang Tuah Monorail Station is named after and was constructed over the
southeast-bound lane of Jalan Hang Tuah. Hang Tuah is a legendary warrior
who lived during the reign of Sultan Mansur Shah of the Sultanate of Malacca
in the 15th century.
Located on the northwestern tip of Pudu, the Station is in the vicinity of
the Methodist Boys School, Victoria Institution, the Bukit Bintang City
Centre (BBCC) (the former Pudu Prison), the Kuala Lumpur City Police
Headquarters and the Merdeka Stadium.
The Station, like virtually all other KL Monorail Stations, is elevated and
built over Jalan Hang Tuah, and now directly integrated to the existing
LRT Ampang Line /
Sri Petaling Line. The Station
has two exits that lead to either side of the road, and is directly located
northeast from the LRT Ampang Line /
Sri Petaling Line. The Station
is only accessible via stairways and escalators. The Station's length is
also longer in comparison to certain KL Monorail Stations.
The Hang Tuah Monorail Station is one of four Kuala Lumpur Monorail Stations
that serves the Kuala Lumpur Golden Triangle locality, the other three being
the Raja Chulan Station, the
Bukit Bintang Station and the
Imbi Station. The Station is also one of two KL
Monorail Stations that is designated as an interchange to and from the LRT
Lines, the other being the Titiwangsa Station.
Interchange Station
The proximity of the Monorail Station with the
LRT Ampang Line /
Sri Petaling Line meant both
stations are designated in transit maps as interchange stations between the
two lines, and is subsequently use heavily primarily to reach Bukit Bintang
and surrounding areas via the KL Monorail Line from the
LRT Ampang Line /
Sri Petaling Line.
Since 2012, the two stations have been physically linked so it is no longer
required to exit one station or to use the public sidewalk outside the
Station to reach the other Station or to change lines (Monorail to LRT or
vice versa).

Platform Architecture
Hang Tuah Monorail Station's layout is different from other KL
Monorail Line stations. The Station has three levels: The access points at
street level, and the ticket area and adjoining platforms on two elevated
levels. All levels are linked via stairways, escalators and elevators
designated for disabled passengers.
The Station's side platform is used by trains travelling at
either direction of the line, and is entirely sheltered by roofs.
