Petaling Jaya Business and Industrial Association (PPPPJ) adviser Datuk Lim Choon Kin
said the proposed MRT plan did not cater to Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) and
would only go through the border of Petaling Jaya Selatan (PJS). About 250,000 commuters will
benefit if the Mass Rail Transit (MRT) Sungai Buloh-Kajang line stations are
built in North and South Petaling Jaya.
These two areas are densely populated. The LRT servicing these areas is
always packed and the traffic is bad during peak hours. With slight
adjustments, we feel that it will ease the transportation system in Petaling
Jaya. There are vacant lands in both areas to accommodate construction of
stations. |

There is one in Jalan Harapan, Seksyen 19 that will be accessible to
residents in PJU. Therefore we urge the Government to look into these areas,
especially PJS, as many residents are from the lower-income group, Lim
said.
He said he appreciated the Government’s move in getting feedback and hoped
people’s views would be considered.
A letter has been sent to the Transport Ministry, Petaling Jaya City
Council, Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) and Prasarana requesting
the change in the alignment of MRT routes.
If the proposed plan is approved, the stations will benefit residents from
PJU, including Damansara Kim, Damansara Utama. Damansara Jaya, SS2, Seksyen
19, Seksyen 17 and PJS area such as Taman Medan, Taman Seri Manja and Taman
Maju Jaya, he added.
The association’s deputy president, Tee Kee Tian, also asked the SPAD to
look into the possibility of inter-linking MRT, LRT and KTM Komuter in more
areas as practiced in Hong Kong and Singapore.
People should not have to walk far or take shuttle buses to change stations.
This project offers long-term benefit and it is only wise we look forward
and build an advanced system to provide convenience for the commuters, he
said.
