Federal Govt Accepts Selangor's Request to Join MRT Planning

SHAH ALAM: The federal government has accepted a Selangor government request to send a representative to meetings of the Land Public Transport Commission and other related agencies in planning the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project.

Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said Wednesday the state will be represented by an executive councillor at the meetings.

Having a representative at the meetings "will help us to better understand the MRT project," he told reporters here after chairing the weekly executive council meeting.

Khalid said the state government had also requested to join town hall briefings on the project for local residents.

Work on the RM36bil project under the Greater KL initiative is expected to begin this July.

Khalid said the project, due to be completed in 2016, deserved the support of all.
