KL Mass Rapit Transit

 
 

After the MRT project was formally launched on July 8, 2011, the following amendments have been made to the original plan:

   
31 stations instead of 35 stations will be built and provisions have been made for 3 more stations
Section 16 and Section 17 stations have been combined into the section 16 station
TTDI station has been moved
Bukit Bintang stations have been combined into one, moved and will be integrated with KL Monorail station. The station will be named Bukit Bintang Central instead of Bukit Bintang.
KL Sentral station will be built at Muzium Negara and will be integrated with KL Sentral through a tunnel link.
Park and Ride facilities has been increased to 16 from 13 previously.
Taman Mesra station has been removed.
Sungai Buloh and Bandar Kajang station alignments have been adjusted.
   
   

     Project's Data

Malaysia's largest megaproject and first Mass Rapit Transit (MRT) project.

The Greater KL MRT Project is one of the key initiative identified under the government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

Project owner is MASS Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp)

Project Delivery Partner (project manager) awarded to MMC-Gamuda Joint Venture Sdn Bhd.

Project regulator and licensing authority is Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).

Estimated total costs of 3 MRT lines is at least RM36.6 billion.

The first phase is scheduled for ground breaking in July 2011 and fully operational by 2017.

The whole MRT project is expected to create 130,000 jobs.

By 2020, the MRT is expected to carry 2 million riders, serving over 11% of total travel across Klang Valley and 64% of travel in and out of KL City Centre.
   
    Sungai Buloh - Kajang Line (SBK Line)
The Sg Buloh-Kajang MRT Line is the first of at least 3 MRT lines being planned, with a total length of 150km.

Estimated to be 51km in length.

31 stations, with 16 of them incorporating park-and-ride facilities.

There will be 4 interchange stations.

9.5km of the length will be underground.
Population catchments of 1.2 million, with estimated daily ridership of 442,000.
Construction period from 2011 to 2017
A ride from the first to the last station will take approximately 90 minutes.

Integration with existing KTM Komuter stations in Sungai Buloh and Kajang.

Integration with existing LRT stations either at KL Sentral or Pasar Seni and Maluri.

May integrate with future MRT Line stations at Pusat Bandar Damansara and KL International Financial District (KLIFD).

Connectivity for upcoming mega urban development area such as Sg Buloh RRIM, Warisan Merdeka, KLIFD and Cochrane City.

Groundbreaking expected to kick off on July 2011 and actual work expected to start on November 2011.
